Mumbai: After several seasons with Manchester United, Alejandro Garnacho is turning the page on a new chapter at Aston Villa, where the winger is now looking to rebuild his confidence and carve out a key role in Unai Emery’s attacking setup. Speaking on JioHotstar, Garnacho opened up about his move to the club and what led him to choose to work under Emery.
On joining Aston Villa:
Garnacho didn’t hide his excitement about the move, saying he’s genuinely thrilled to be at the club and can’t wait to get out on the pitch. He spoke about Aston Villa’s rich history and the momentum the club is currently building, calling the project an exciting one he wants to be part of. He said he’s looking forward to working alongside his new teammates, giving everything he has, and helping push the team toward big achievements. He also acknowledged how warmly the fans have already welcomed him, saying he wants to repay that trust through hard work and consistent performances. While he recognises just how demanding the Premier League can be, he insists he’s fully ready for that challenge — and simply eager to get started.
On why he picked Aston Villa as his next destination:

Garnacho explained that he was specifically looking for a club where he could rebuild his confidence and rediscover the kind of form he showed during his early years at Manchester United. That search led to a call from Aston Villa manager Unai Emery, and the conversation that followed made a real impact on him. He said Emery made him feel genuinely valued, laying out his vision for the team and exactly how Garnacho could fit into it — and that clarity gave him the belief he needed to commit to the move. He credited Emery with restoring his confidence and said he’s determined to help the team achieve something special. He also feels the team’s style of play suits him well, believing he can bring energy, creativity, and goals to the attack. Calling this a genuine fresh start, Garnacho said he’s committed to repaying the faith shown in him by working hard every day and giving his best on the pitch.
On his playing style and what he brings to Aston Villa:
Garnacho described himself as a left-sided winger who, being right-footed, likes to cut inside and create chances for the team. He said he enjoys taking defenders on directly, running at them with pace, and whipping crosses into the box, while also liking to drive inside and shoot whenever the opportunity presents itself. He was honest about needing confidence to execute that game at its best — when he’s feeling sharp and self-assured, he said, everything tends to flow naturally. Once he finds that rhythm again, he’s confident he can perform at his highest level and make a real difference for the team.
